Fence View is a series of small camera obscura “viewers” made from disposable objects like Solo Cups. The viewers are grouped in patterns and inserted in to a chain-link fence to re-order their field of view. Fence View is a series of small camera obscura “viewers” made from magnifying lenses, disposable plastic cups and plastic garbage bags. These viewers are made to fit into chain-link fencing that is so common in the urban landscape. Because of the grid-like composition of chain-link fence the Solo-Cup viewers can be composed in a variety of groups and patterns. These groupings and patterns can vary from one Fence View to the next and often relate to the environment in which they are installed. Placed in various formations, the viewers record their environment in real time as miniature images that are visible upside-down and backward. The scene they create is immediately whole and disjointed at the same time; each viewer displays its own perspective on the scene, yet all of the viewers working together to create a mosaic image. Groups of viewers will be placed at various locations where they can interact with the local scenery and other Conflux 2007 artists creations. A map will be provided to locate the Fence Views and will be organized according to the passage of daylight in the Williamsburg area as it relates to optimal light levels in the viewers. In short, the viewers that are composed from materials so readily discarded interact with their surrounding environs and force the audience into a new way of looking.
